In 1901 Gustave Whitehead is
reported to have made the first powered flight, landing over 800 meters away from his take off point. In 1995 an unidentified man was reported to have made the first jet powered car flight, ending roughly 4 miles away where he embedded himself in a cliff. Neither story can be substantiated, but we salute these brave pioneers anyway.
